I had a ‘67 GTO that I installed exhaust manifolds on to replace an old set of rusty dented headers.
The trick to getting them in was to have all the bolts already in the manifolds at least on the driver’s side before you slipped them into place. There was absolutely no way to get the bolts in any other way.
So yes you can remove the manifolds without jacking up the engine after loosening the mounts.
