REMOVE the link and accl pump arm. Early models used a clip on the link, later models require driving the roll pin in.

REMOVE the secondary hanger and secondary metering rods. NEVER remove or install the top with the hanger in place and secondary rods hanging from it.

REMOVE the choke link coming up from the choke lever. Early models used a clip, later models a 6-32 pan head screws. The link turns 90 degrees and lifts out.

The choke bracket or choke housing is the LAST part removed and FIRST part installed during your rebuild.

The top gets installed with NOTHING hanging from it so you can put is straight down on the main casting.

For some reason folks making movies try to install the top with parts hanging from it and attempt to manipulate the choke parts in from the side at the same time. Talk about needing a couple of friends, some beer drinking buddies, and even your wifes boyfriend hangin around for some additional help....duh?. For some reason that method of assembly is regurgitated over and over on most of the videos I've seen, and the best way I know to damage the top gasket, bend power piston hanger arms, fold over secondary metering rods, and even worse DESTROY the floating secondary discs in the bottom of the main casting and ruin your carburetor!.

Anyhow, I sell a USA made electric choke conversion that actually "clocks" with the terminal down, correct release time, wide range of adjustment and works like it's supposed to. Ya, it's expensive, but about 100,000 times better than the offshore crap on Ebay for $12 with "free shipping" that "clocks" upside down and doesn't last much longer than it took me to type this.......FWIW

Cliff, thanks for chiming in. I wish you would do a video (camera looking down over work bench) of you or Ray doing a total rebuild. It would be nice to have with your book. If you have already done it. I'd like a copy. Thanks.
