FWIW, I found enough info online that I managed to call a truck salvage/repair yard with reasonably intelligent questions. The DT466 started as purely mechanical, then went to HEUI around 1995. Like some auto makers, the old stuff carried on for a while, yet it had some newer upgrades. My engine is a 1996 dt466 NGD, and is a purely mechanical engine, yet has the newer HEUI style flywheel housing and flywheel bolt pattern.
If anybody needs to cram one into a Pontiac, you can ask me for more details. (466 CID, turbocharged, and came under a one piece fiberglass tilt front cap. Sounds cooler than a school bus if I say it like that, huh?)
