That's a really good bulletin from Champion labs. It shows design changes on a variety of their filters. Just looking at the changes, I don't see where more holes is a cost saving measure. To the contrary, it looks like it would improve flow and efficiency as they claim. Champion labs is a big player in the filter game. They make a wide variety of filters of various price points. From cheap, barely adequate filters for the quick lube shops under private label to good quality filters for NAPA in the mid-price "Performer" line. The "brand names" they produce under is probably a list of 40-50 brands. There is a huge "Fram" filter plant not far from where I live. They also produce filters for dozens of private label brands in every color of the rainbow. They have different quality media and seals/valves based on price point.
