When you look at the original crank handle, the knob is small die cast piece (plastic cover over it) with a shaft that sticks thru the crank. Then a small wave washer, on top of that a small flat washer, then the head of the shaft is mushroom over.
The knob rotates and also rocks in a little due to the wave washer.
I take a flat blade screw driver and rock the knob to let the screw driver under the flat washer and start prying the washer up. Keep rotating and prying. Eventually it pops the mushroom area off. Careful as you need the wave washer when you put it back together. Watch out as it can fly apart. I usually put my thumb over it when it's ready to pop.
