Bank of America used to have a "Virtual Credit Card" option you could access online. It allowed you to generate a temporary credit card number with a near expiration date and whatever max dollar limit you wanted. I would choose the expiration date one month out and set the credit limit $5 over what the actual charges would be. That prevented anybody else from making charges to that card. You could get as many temporary card numbers as you wanted.
It worked great, but for some reason they discontinued it. I cancelled the card after that.
