Are you sure they are gone? They get everywhere and anywhere! When I dismantled my '64, there was evidence under the seats, behind the dash and above the headliner where the dome light wire harness runs through the structural sheet metal.! They eat the insulation off the wire, and you may not have problems until they short to ground or corrode. Inspect as much as you are able.
