So to throw another wrinkle in talked to Lee on his engine stand -different distributor and different wiring motor did some similar weird stuff with timing ! I would think if balancer ring were moving it would not move back and that dramatic amount.
Cam thrust? would increased rpm move cam gear to retard it?
Getting a new pigtail for connection but something else is weird with engine.
