That wouldn’t hurt, but I believe he already checked the lifters for slop on the second cam he tried.
A Nitrided cam makes the surface of the lobes much tougher and doesn’t allow the taper to be taken off of the camshaft during the break in very easily even when some lifters do not spin all that well at first. It helps mate the lifters to the cam lobes and will not remove much taper on the cam from the break in.
