I just went through this with a customer. The problem with "kits" is none are designed for a Pontiac. Most of it won't "bolt on" to
a Pontiac..... Buy a nice degree wheel. Forty years ago I bought the Ford Motorsports and it was a perfect choice. Buy a magnetic base and indicator. Now you only need to make a pointer and figure out a way to read the cam lobe motion. For years I used modified lifters. If you do a lot of them it's definitely worth buying the lifters tool with changeable ends for FT & roller.
Anyone building an engine can justify the expense of a nice magnetic base.
