Rachelsdad:
We did a prototype for the carbureted 3rd gen and it worked really well. Only engine mod (other than turbo kit) was the use of the cop car Z28 clutch fan and shroud. The Chevy crowd showed no interest in it. I guess the stigma of a kit coming from a PONTIAC co. was a deal breaker.
Looking at the "bonnets" from the old articles, the first bonnet pictured is the first design based on the prototype bonnet. the next bonnet pictured was the second design with a diffusion section added at the inlet side and an anti-surge valve. The third design was the one in the full kit picture . It featured a contoured underside (like that of a stock air cleaner) and was developed with the aid of our flow bench and pressure probes. Also note the increased size of the diffuser section and elimination of the anti-surge valve. A fourth design was modified for use with right angle inlet Q-jets, and Holley linkage.
