I would have to agree that it's the modified ascpect which caused the issue with Hagerty. I don't have anything insured for that value (I have the Bonneville at $35,500 right now, which is probably a bit on the low side, but what she fetch? $40? $45? $50?). The point is that it's easier to peg a completely stock car to market values. The same can be said of any one-off vehicle.
That is not to say that Hagerty is any better than any of the other carriers. I used to have Condon & Skelly ages (and ages) ago. Hagerty gave me a better deal, and I currently have five cars with them (six, if I count the '68 De Ville in my brother's name), all stock. No problems with valuation (in fact, they even want me to increase the values of my two Safari projects).
As to why they wouldn't accept an appraisal, I haven't a clue.
