2. You back the timing off and the pining diminishes greatly, even gone.
3. You tink about piston position for 34* BTDC and realize the quench is closer to 1".
4. You tink about piston position for 26* BTDC and realize the quench is closer to 0.5"

In a Pontiac 428 those distance are less than half of that.
