Good cooler, fluid and sprag, no first to second gear burnouts and functioning factory parts will last longer then most might think.
I have a few under my belt nothing more than Torrington bearings instead of shims, alto reds smooth drum, rmvb/brake. I usually juggle thin steels to get an extra friction in the drums and maintain the clearances toward the looser side of the specs.
My buddy has an 871 454 pro street nova I did a trans for him 20 years ago. I have it a tail light warranty because he drives the crap out of his car and beats it up hard. Still never been touched in 20 years
Keep in mind you have a cast drum spinning pretty damn fast next to your nuts, trans shield or blanket highly recommended. If you can an upgraded input shaft and aluminum drum are wise upgrades, but not required for 1k hp in my opinion
