That's an excellent question! You have to have a certain level of trust in the person/company that is grinding your camshafts for you. For mild builds without razor thin tolerances, if #1 comes in where it belongs, you are "assuming" the other 14 lobes are correct and they almost always seem to be. Joe Mondello, one of my mentors, always checked the 4 corners of the block on every build for cam phasing, at a minimum. For close tolerance race engines, Pro Stock, Indy car, he would check every lobe. Time consuming and somebody has to pay for that time. Personally, I have never found any "rouge" camshaft lobes on a cam that had a correct #1 pair.
