"Ran when parked"

We're prepping to pull the engine to clean it up and reseal it, but wanted to see if it was a runner first. Carb was corroded from ethanol, and the cooling system needs a good flush, but valve train looked squeaky clean. Popped a new Edelbrock AVS2 carb on it, replaced the points, cap and rotor, and fed it from the gas can and it fired right up. Can't get any fuel from the tank so I assume the pickup looks a lot like the carb did. I've never seen a carb that bad.
