86-87 Grand Nationals used the sandwich style adapter. Even when plumbed to a bar & plate style cooler, I didn't see much difference in oil temperature on a mild high 10 second street car. Factory setup plumbed to the radiator which had an oil cooler in the passenger side tank. It's often eliminated when the stock radiator is swapped out for a radiator that doesn't have an oil cooler built in.
