a car is only original... until it isn't.

my opinion especially if it's something your wife is going to occasionally drive;
rebuild the original engine, find a stock grind cam, and let your aspired horsepower numbers be dammed.

My opinion is that if/when you look to sell, an unmodified all original car (with a rebuilt numbers engine) will be an easier sale than a modified car - in a sea of modified vintage cars.

There is a reason why original cars tend to make more money than modified cars;
With every passing year, there are fewer and fewer original cars.
