Since this car is not a rare car I wouldn't care about any originality stuff. Plus you can keep the original block for resale purposes, if that matters to you.

You could refresh the motor, but with 250K miles on it how much longer is it really going to last? You could put a couple thousand bucks and a bunch of work into it then in a week it could die. And at 250K miles, face it, it is dying.

If that level of performance is satisfactory, then rebuild it. If not then get a new motor. For a daily driver kind of vibe, a really mild 455 would give great driving manners and lots of torque.
