I've changed the way I think about replacing known good parts. With today's QC issues if I know a part was functioning properly and there isn't a reason to replace it I usually roll with it. In particular a water pump. I've cleaned up a few and re-used them. Five years isn't that long for a part that's expected to last 100k miles.... Unless it has close to that much use I'd probably clean and reuse.

Not long ago I went through four new, very expensive water pumps until I finally got the version that didn't leak. Had a similar deal with an alternator.

I have no experience with the Butler water pump.
