The idea of running a return line back to tank works because the fuel is continually moving in the line and doesn't sit stationary long enough to boil into vapor. Chrysler, as well as AMC, and a few other manufacturers used the fuel filters with a metered return to tank to solve vapor lock problems back in the 60s. Placed as close as possible to the carb the return system keeps cooler fuel constantly circulating avoiding boiling.
