I have custom Ferrea valves in my engine, unfortunately are stock sized (chevy exhaust diameter). I ended up cutting one cam housing for the bigger cam because I could not find lash caps thin enough for the thickness I needed.

In hindsight, and maybe in a future refresh, I would cut the top of the valve stem down to fit lash caps. Lash caps aren't a straight forward solution either, as the cam follower sits around the top of the valve, so either the follower slots have to be milled wider, or the sides of the lash caps trimmed off. I'd probably trim the caps and carry spares.

Correct valve length is the most straight forward answer, but then locks you into running a specific base circle cam.

With longer valves, lose a cam lobe and you can't throw on stock cam in. Where in my case, I have a stock cam in its own housing ready to put on if there is a cam/follower problem. With lash caps, ideally find a valve stem length that gets you a sets of caps that can be swapped for stock to smaller base circle cams. Let the caps be the adjustments, but of course need the sets either trimmed or sets of followers milled.
