My re-grind cam had the base circle reduced by 0.040", so the .060" caps would put it a smidge over the "spec". I believe the tolerance is +/- 0.025" so technically could probably get away with a 0.060" lash cap, but don't like the idea of being on the high side.

I've never lost a cam or follower either. I've reused followers with no re-dressing and put two different used cams into an engine with mixed followers. I also run a lot more oil to the top end and am a fan of sticky Lucas additive for these engines.

yes the sides will need to be trimmed to fit the follower groove.
Good point on wiping a cam and being stuck with a longer valve.
That said Ive never wiped a cam.
I remember a fellow forum member wiping a new cam due to not dressing up the lobes
on new followers.
When you cut a cover you must mechanically retime the camshaft.
What size lash cap would you need for the cam youre running?
I have different regrinds from more than one source
2 from Crane,2 from Crower and some left from my sales of regrind/exchange
units before there were any repops made

Keep in mind there is some"adjustment" or compensation with lash adjusters

I've cut a very rough cam housing into sections and likewise cut a cam that had a wiped lobe just to see what it looks like in operations. Had to disassemble a lash adjuster and make it "solid" with washers for a real good view, but the lash adjuster in a neutral position has a TON of up and down range. I know its recommended to shim them up the amount the base circle is reduced, but I'm not really sure its needed. Its like +/- 0.2" range of motion on 0.0x" cam cuts.
