If you get back over there to look under the hood, remember this: To open a first gen hood you first pull the release rod and the hood will spring up a few inches. Then with one hand push down on the hood and pull the release rod again with your other hand and it should open. If that doesn't work, you may have to push down on the hood before pulling the release rod. I've been following this thread from the start and it's a really cool story.
