I did something like that for my Chevelle. Used 3" with a mix of Dr. Gas, Torque Tech, and then Dynomax Ultraflows, then used flanged connections for quick removal of the X when needed, and fabbed my own electric cutouts into the system. Then used all factory hangers in the system

Unfortunately I don't believe there are any 3" transverse mufflers on the market for F-bodies to do something similar, but it would be cool if there were.
