What torque? The hottest Grand National there was (the GNX) had 276 horse and 360 ft/lbs of torque. That is nothing and that is why it did not need much for a transmission. The 700r4 is basically a T350 with an overdrive. The internals are much beefier in the 700 than the 200. If the 200 was such a torque handling monster why wasn't it put in the Corvette or the trucks? Also, what torque the GN/GNX had did not come in at the hit of the throttle. Big difference on internals. Big difference on transmissions. Putting a 200 behind the torque a Pontiac engine delivers is a very foolish thing.

I had a 200-4R behind a 462 for decade, worked very well. Regret selling the trans as the combo did high 13's in a 3,800 pound car while getting 17 mpg.Trans now resides in a 72 shortbox Chevy with 4.11's: owner is very happy.
