That was the first thing that I looked at and was happy that the installation was correct.
I have posted that I had a magazine picture years ago (1966 Pontiac advertising) that showed it incorrectly and I swapped to that configuration. I then later had a jammed linkage and a high rpm issue. I reached over to the key and turned the ignition off.
Fortunately on the 64 Lemans, Tempest, and GTOs the ignition key is very easy to access and shut off.
