I have a 1970 455 D-port with 64 heads. When we rebuilt it I went with a 15cc dish piston and a 068 Melling cam. My heads cc’d our right around 89-90 so my calculated compression is mid 9’s or so. I run 93 octane all the time with no issues, never really tried anything with a lower octane. I did have it balanced also. It’s pretty smooth, plenty of torque and pulls hard…I was criticized for not going with a more aggressive cam profile but I’m super happy with results
