The reason they are battery is so if your car gets towed off ass end up, and its not on, the car is still trackable. I have used one for freight before, but its not really a small thing.
The ones for cars are a actual cell with a number, but can't dial, like a tablet with a cell contract. More secure systems use " i " phone aps. Good luck, curious to see which way you go

What do you mean when it is towed? Would the hard-wired car battery cut out if it isn't level or do you mean if the unit wasn't hooked up to the constant power wire?
