I used to like the idea of an HEI or electronic conversion;
I really liked the idea of a built in rev limiter function that some of them offered.
Then one day I was left stranded with a a 1973 Firebird which was running an HEI;
The magnetic pickup went bad.
That was my introduction to the down side of low maintenance electronics.
I am now absolutely a proponent of sticking with points if it's a points car - if points go bad, you can swap them out in a couple minutes with a screw driver.
