That's what I thought, too.

The flexplate that came with this engine is GM #9779070.
That is appraently the correct flexplate for Pontiac 65-74 V8 with THM400 transmission, so I figured it must not be correct for my OHC application.

But I also found a reference that shows it is correct for the OHC with ST300 trans, which is the transmission that came with this engine.

I'm currently looking for a 9782927 flexplate that was mentioned in the earlier posts, but this 9779070 flexplate definitely fits on the crankshaft.
