MAACO has the benefit of economy of scale on their side. Since they don't typically have to work in the realm of perfection, can assembly line the process across several different body guys, painters and booths you can get in and out quicker for cheaper. Of course having the AAMCO cash cow to subsidize the brand is likely helping as well.

Many years ago a friend had one of their $400.00 deals done on a 91 Nissan Maxima. I think it was single stage, but it actually came out looking great. In fact most of the stuff I've seen come out of MAACO I would classify as good driver quality. "Showable" in your local shows, but certainly not "Show Quality." Considering I've been recently quoted between 15k-20K for a fairly standard paint job, if you can get good quality in the 2500-4000 range, you're doing pretty good!
