The DuPont paint chips back in that era were done with ink colors made to look like semi-close representatives of the colors.
I sold DuPont automotive paint products in early/mid 80's and the chips were still done using inks up to that point in time.
A shame you missed out on the 1-800-PONTIAC free invoices in the later 80's.
For about 2 or 3 years they did them for free 1969 - through that current year.
When PHS started out with it, it was $25 iirc
