Another thing to add in the mix of things to measure / verify -
the size of the bolt holes that secure the ring gear to the carrier.
There is Early and Late as mentioned in a previous post already.

To keep in mind, just because the seller states the rear came OUT of a 65 GTO , does not guarantee the rear was the original in that 65.. Differentials get swapped around and it could have been a 69 Differential ,,, for all anyone knows.

Ideally you want the bolt holes to be the same as your existing Early ring gear bolt holes.
To avoid any deeper modifications or buying another ring & pinion set (Later Version)
