Yeah, that would work. Kinda. But the true OE stuff is a textured surface/coating. To get that texture/look, you need to spray the whole thing with the splatter paint.

I may be completely wrong...but this is the 'texture' of mine and it appears to be as the original...which is still visible high in the quarter insides.
Anyway, I'd do it the exact same way again for my personal tastes...
