The AMA weights for the options on the Formula are 44 lbs for the M40 trans; 30 lbs for power steering; 10 lbs for power brakes; 14 lbs for the RAIII engine; and 7 lbs for radio. The car also has center console (10 lbs?), rear seat speaker (2 lbs?), and deluxe interior (8 lbs?), so guessing another 20 lbs total for the unlisted options. This brings the option total to 125 lbs to add to the base model weight for 3696 lbs AMA (3661 lbs title/3710 brochure).

Checking out the Pure Stock Drags weights of 2nd Gen Firebirds (both TA & Formulas) they range all over the place. Obviously, some cars seem to have gone through suspicious weight reductions. There haven't been any '70 Formula 400's yet, but there was a similarly equipped '71 Formula 400 that Steve Courter brought in 2015 and it weighed 3714 lbs with driver. Removing the driver weight (I'd say Steve weighs about 150 lbs wet) brings it down to 3564 lbs with probably a half tank of gas and w/o the spare tire & jack. I'm guessing 3664 lbs +/- with a full tank and spare/jack (+100 lbs) for the curb weight. That seems about right to say around 3814 lbs with a 150 lb driver.

Maybe Larry (Formulajones) can 'weigh' in on what his '70 Formula weighs?

Dennis
Yep Dennis weighed mine many times, and just recently at the drags last year.

It's 3690 lbs. without a driver. I'm 210 lbs so it's 3900 lbs. going down track, it's a friggin tank. Maybe I need to go on a diet That's without the spare tire stuff in the trunk and a full tank of gas.

Mine is a RAIII with 400 turbo. Has power steering and power brakes, console, style trim, rally II wheels, has a radio of course, and that's about it for options that I can think of that add weight. Not sure how that computes with your weight break down.

I've done no weight reduction on the car other than removing the spare tire. It does have a complete 2 1/2" mandrel bent Pypes exhaust system on it, which is probably a tad heavier than the stock exhaust system was.

When I put aluminum wheels on it for giggles it weighed 3650 lbs. That alone was worth 40 lbs. LOL Those daggum rally II wheels are heavy!
