Thoughts. The slot may have something to do with where the hinged cable bracket bolts to flapper housing? So when flapper closes it doesn't hook onto foam or damage it?
I don't think it comes near that area but it's in line with it, and maybe GM engineers put it there thinking it would come in contact with cable bracket or retainer clamp?
