This is my unintended rebuild of my fairly stock 1971 455HO from my Trans Am. Lots of good internal pics for anyone wanting to see any 455HO internals. The engine had received one decent rebuild before my ownership where it was bored .030 over and the heavy forged Speed Pro pistons were installed with stock rods. Later, about six years ago during my ownership, the crank had split and been replaced with a new Eagle crank that had no prep done, it was simply thrown in the engine by an unskilled shop. They also replaced the rod bolts with ARP bolts I provided.
This build happened by me over the winter in my house because the distributor gear got ground up and sent trash through the bearings. The filter stopped it going through the galleys but it scored the walls and the crank journals.
In this build I took my time and went carefully. I had no machine shop services available so I had a crank done by Paul and sent to me (a used N Pontiac crank). The cylinder bores were in good shape with almost no ridge so I honed them myself.
