Default How much CFM, electric fan

Looking into electric fans to go with my cooling system upgrade. Here is what I will have. New waterpump, 2 core aluminum rad, electric fans.

Summit fans seem to be somewhere around 2000 cfm, even the dual fans. One of the single fans says 2000 cfm. If I put 2 single fans in will thats = 4000. Is that enough? Looking for some suggestions.

1967 Firebird, 1971 455, 4 speed, street machine.

Thanks

when attached to face of radiator each will pull 2000 only thru the area that is touching the radiator, areas of rad that have no fan on them get no fan cooling
if both fans are in a single sealed shroud that covers the entire rad surface both fans are pulling air thru the whole radiator it will be 4000

get a cougar style fan they fit well to a 69 bird radiator and it will pull a ton of airThe fans can be bought off ebay cheap and they use an S blade type fan. If you
ever need a fan motor for it though they are around $125

The fans on Ebay were $50 or less when I last looked. I think the ford taraus fan is the same too. I liked mine so much I bought a brand new motor for $125 for it.

I hooked it up backwards during eliminations at the track and after a 145 MPH pass it was cooked.OOPPPS!

Other than that the fan has been trouble free for about 6 years of beatings.

i wouldn't trust those ratings. airflow will change based on what radiator it's sucking air through. some of these 'big and bad' aluminum radiators have closely stacked tubes with lots of fins in between them, therefore giving more of a restriction than an original style radiator with less tubes and fins. if i were you, i would look at the electrical load they pull. the more power, the better ability to suck lots of air through. the cfm thing is kinda like watts in a stereo system: plenty of high wattage stereos sound like crap and plenty of low watt stereos sound good. those cfm numbers aren't standardized either, just a manufacturing claim.

The Summit fans are rated in a truer scenario than the PermaCools, and they last a ton longer. Call Summit up and ask a more knowledgeable tech about the how they rate their fans vs some of the other companys and I'd bet you'd get the Summit.

I went through 3 Permacools in not even 6 weeks, I've had the same Summit fan for probably 3 years at least and it cools at least as good if not better.
