Question 73 R/A Hood Hinge Mounts

I bought a R/A hood for my 73 Espirit. The threads in the nut plates inside the hood where the hinges bolt up look pretty rusted. Also the hood latch is rusted. I know it is probably possible, but is it recommended to drill out the rivets holding the nut plates in so I can remove and blast the plates or should I leave them installed and just clean what rust I can see?
Thanks guys.

Unless you plan on leaving your bird exposed to lots of weather and/or salt spray, I'd leave it and clean it up externally. I couldn't imagine you'd be able to replicate the factory strength in re-riveting the straps.

The rivets look like BIG pop rivets. In my line of work I can probably get some more rivets and the gun to shoot them. I would just hate to crack the fiberglass in the process tho.
