Another issue today.I'm going over everything on the dash, being I just got it all together for the first time.I'm working on my 72 with A/C .My question here is,when the key is on and the top control lever is in the off position,is the fan or"blower" motor still suppose to spin?Mine does spin like k its on low.I checked the master switch on the control panel and the four wires going to it.When the switch is set at de-ice or heat or anything other then off the switch has three live terminals. When I switch the lever to off,it shuts off power to the two terminals and sends power to the fourth terminal, which Leeds me to believe that the fan should always run.Its this correct??I'm working on it today and have it open now,so If someone can walk me through it I would appreciate it.Thanks,Tom

yes you are correct, if the key is on the motor is running.
It has something to do with keeping the cabin air fresh if the engine is running, no carbon monoxide buildup. I think it is only on AC models though? I can't remember my non-AC bird doing this? seems like I read it somewhere, but maybe it is on all models? |

Yup, always running. Part of the flow-through ventilation system. All I've had are A/C cars so I don't know if it occurs on the non-A/C cars.

It's one of the things that drives me nuts about the A/C cars...

It's to keep mold from growing in the A/C ducts by having air constantly moving to dry up the condensed moisture that ends up in the bottom of the ducts. An excellent Radiator A/C guy in my home town told me that years ago when I questioned it. If you think about it it makes sense because in a non A/C car there is no condensed water in the ducts.

Makes sense. Too bad it only works until you turn the car off. Love the smell of algae on a hot day.

Funny, cause that's one of the things on my list that I wanted to fix on my car. It's always on and I thought something was wrong with the wiring/cables or the blower itself.
I can go ahead and check that off the list. Thanks guys!!!

so if you remove all a/c components, is there a quick way to get blower motor to turn off ? its not a big deal, just don't need it running since I removed a/c components...

Remove the 3 speed "resistor unit" from the ac box, and just CUT the smallest coil, and put back in. Then you will have NO low speed, but you will have the Med and high at switch on dash, Low will now be "Off"

Replace the 3 speed resistor block screwed into your AC suitcase. take it to Napa and see what you can find, I only see up to 1970 listed for sale at Ames and others.
