Any Benefit?
As you all know by now I blew my engine up due to lack of a rev limiter. I bought an MSD street fire basically just for the rev limiter but I have been reading other sites and it sounds like the box is nowhere near as good as the 6AL. On a stout street engine is there enough difference to justify the expense of the 6AL? I kinda like the small footprint of this box.

should function the same as far as the limiter function.
another option is if you have an HEI dist, MSD makes an in cap module with a built in rev limiter for about $100. i use one in my HEI for a few years now with no problems, lots of drag strip runs at close to 6000 rpm & plenty of street miles. supposed to be a hotter spark than stock module too. |

If your not running strip only I don’t see any benefit to cleaning out your wallet more!
Put those funds towards saving up for a chassis dyno session .

doesnt need to be strip only, many benefits from a rev limiter or separate box for street cars.
apparently he blew his engine because of no rev limiter... so if not having a rev limiter caused that, buying a limiter of some sort is cheap insurance. not sure what caused the engine to blow, was it user error or a malfunction of something causing excessive rpms to actually blow up the engine? i must have missed the explanation in all the threads/posts on this car/engine. as for the 6al box, there are some benefits to using one like the multi spark below ~3000rpms & the simple chip type rev limiter of the older analog units which can be bought used in good shape for ~$100, or pay 3-4 times that much for a newer digital one. if the rev limiter is all thats needed, the street fire should be fine & the soft touch limiter is nice. |

I use progression, https://progressionignition.com/
You can set the rev limit where ever you like in addition to custom timing tables and vacuum advance. In my opinion, this is one of the tech items that really does make things easier.
