Default 70 Formula Ram Air advise needed.........

I have a question for you guys.........My 70 restoration is moving along quickly at this point and I need to make a decision about my air cleaner. I have a later 2 heat riser RA cleaner that is absolutely mint ......got it in the GM box....it's been installed on something but not even long enough to get the original filter dirty. Would you guys chrome the lid and use this or try to find/trade for the correct 70 unit? The car is going to look pretty darn stock and has almost all the original correct #'s stuff under the hood. I dont think the air cleaner will be noticeable but thought I'd try to get some educated input...........thanks!

You can still find the 70 units out there - and for less than the NOS HO unit you have.

Find the right one and sell yours - you'll be a few $$$ ahead.

Q: Does your NOS unit have the bracket studs on the ears or no?

thanks!.........I don't believe it has the bracket studs..........it was a GM service replacement part purchased from the dealership.........I wonder if anybody has a 70 one they would trade...........

It doesn't have the bracket studs, I bought two of these NOS back in '83 or '84 and sold Scott this one many years ago. It was on my '71 GTO for about 200 miles and that's it.

I also have two NOS SR dual heat riser RA air cleaners, both w/o the support bracket studs.

FWIW, my observation is NOT that you can find a true correct '70 RA Air Cleaner for less than a later style one...

Capt, regardless.... it's a metal part that doesn't wear out. I doubt you're going to be slogging through the rain/snow/salt with this car, so if your existing air cleaner is nice, it will still be nice even after you run it on the car for awhile. I don't think its value will change much. So I'd say just put the car together with it. And if a correct '70 air cleaner ever shows up, then you can pick it up and sell your later style one as others have suggested.

capt'
i have a chome lid that needs rechromed. why don't you use mine and keep the original unchromed lid so if/when you sell yours, it wil have the unchromed lid?? i have a 3-10-70 dated snorkle for a formula. i think it was for the ones without the functioning scoops(looks like the HO/RAIV's)...you can have the chrome lid, or I can take it to mylocal chrome shop and they can chrome it for you-pretty cheap and quick..
you have my numbers..

Here's one for you - listed wrongly as an HO unit. Missing the rubber bung & you have to buy the other parts, but.....

Are you sure of that?

It's not a good picture, but there is only 1 heat riser on driver's side for sure, chrome lid, studs on the vacume pods and the bowl area looks identical to this one.

I see two heat risers. It's an HO Air Cleaner.

Have you already been in touch with the seller?

Is that why the auction ended early and just the hood came back on?

Boss, you can see that it is an HO air cleaner, look at the picture of the bottom of the air cleaner from the auction you can clearly see both heat risers the RAIII Formula does not have that on the passenger side.
