Default ORIGINAL ENGINE WIRNG HARNESS ROUTING LOCATION

Hope I can get some help here.

I have a 1965 GTO and I am installing a new engine wiring harness from autowire. Can some one explain or show in a picture how the original engine wiring harness was installed from the bulk head through the engine compartment. I would like it to be in the original location or as close as possible.

Also let me know if there are any wire holders and where they are located in the engine bay to properly install the wiring harness.

My existing harness is a mess and just running through the engine bay with wires spliced in going everywhere, so not sure how to install the new harness.

Thanks,
Mark

That’s EXACTLY why I bought a nice used set of factory (chassis and body) service manuals for my car. They aren’t expensive.

Hi Mark,
In 2021, I had to replace mine in my 65. I don't think my old one was original. I marked with tape where each wire went to. I got the new one from M&H electric. I laid them both out on my bench and they were close ,except for lengths and color. The new one was CORRECT. It was not hard to do(starter wires are a Pain).

Thanks for the replies.

Maybe I didn't explain what I want. The harness from autowire is as the harness should be with all connection ends and I can figure out where each connection goes from the chassis manual wiring schematic.

What I am looking for is where does the harness go after the bulkhead (e.g. does it go over the master cylinder or under the master cylinder, is it fastened to the firewall or does it just hang there) This is what I am looking for, the actual routing of the harness on its way to the part.

Thanks,
Mark

The best this here, is to research. You need to find some old car magazines that had an article for a brand new 65 GTO roadtest.

In those old B&W photos you will see what you need to see as far as the wiring. The 65 GTO was a hot selling car when it first came out and there are at least a dozen magazines that printed road test articles with photos on that year car.

I prefer the actual paper printed magazine however in the internet age some of those old magazine road tests have been scanned and are available for free on-line. Think: Motor Trend, Car Craft, Hot Rod. Speed age, Performance cars, etc.
