blower intake
Just bought this blower intake at a swap meet. Don't know much about them, what can you tell me about it?

Does it say Offenhouser on the center where the exhaust crossover would be?
Had one that looked about like that. They seemed to be the main supplier many years ago. Probably good for a 6-71 blower. ( no burst panel or pop valve on it)

It has a pop off valve.
Wonder if that said BDS before they put a fitting there? Are you going to use the manifold?

You cut the "wings off the thing and it probably would make a decent street Turbo EFI Intake with a fabbed up roof for the thing and a front mounted 105mm Throttle Body.
Getting rid of the wings would give you a clear shot at welding on Injector Bungs and adding Fuel Rails. Tom V.

Looks like it is an Offy.
Thanks for the input Tom but but I kind of vision a big old blower stickin out the hood. Would this intake work well?

80? Almost 34 years old since it was cast up.
And yet to me an 1980 intake seems like new stuff vs a 65 Tri-Power intake. Tom V.

So did Offy make that intake or did someone else modify it to a blower application?

http://www.exeterautosupply.com/Docs...;20catalog.pdf Adobe page 21... Offy 5499 is a low rise dual quad for 65 or later... With BDS blow off... It suggests BDS used manifold as the base for a blower manifold if you ordered a blower kit from them.

Not nearly as well as a true "blower manifold".

I used a similar Offy 360 dual quad to make a manifold for my turbo combo, however, because the stock runners have a 'dogleg' shape they don't flow that well as stock. They can be ground out and radiused but access is pretty limited, the best bet is to cut the roof off the runners and weld in a straight roof. The manifold then becomes a low rise tunnel ram with a nice straight shot at the head ports.

I saw pics of your Offy. It looked like a lot of work but it really looked nice compared to the original manifold configuration. I've always hated the bigger drop on the front runners compared to the rear. That mismatch has to affect performance. I do understand the packaging concept of the design but never liked it.

Always thought the Offy Intake 5882 would have worked much better the way the runners were designed IF they had put those runners on a Pontiac intake.
