I had to go to the the local O'rielies Sunday, ball joint failure on mister gold.
I had to break out mister Judge to get parts and a a ball-joint press, ran into someone who had a 70 superbird 440 six pac 4 speed dana rear axle. I love this car they were the second owner and they were takin out for a drive in the hills. I had to get a pic.

This one was parked at a local service shop a few years back - did a double take then had to circle back for a picture.

From what I understand there are far fewer of these than the birds right?

I think that Judge looks better.... The shop restoring my '70 Judge does a lot of Mopars and you may notice a Superbird in the background of several of my update pix. They did two recently, one was a national show winner. Cool cars. Rather have the Pontiac product though....

Yeah Chris. The '69 Daytona production was in the hundreds, closer to 2000 for the Superbird.

Superbirds and Daytons are my all time favorite! I would sell every old car I have if I thought I could buy one, but I don't think the math works right on that

I've always loved the winged cars.

The fierce competition between Chrysler and Ford back then to win on stock car tracks led to this final throwdown by Chrysler; building Chargers and Road Runners with custom, pointed noses, and ridiculously huge rear wings.

Ya gotta admire their audacity.

If I recall correctly, 503 Dodge Daytonas built in 1969 and 1920 Plymouth Superbirds in 1970.

Here's a photo of my car back in high school when I was 17 years old- an orange 1970 440 4bbl/auto Superbird.


And my yellow 426 hemi Daytona in 1991.

I remember growing up, and seeing a new Daytona sitting on a Dodge dealers lot, in a small town in Michigan. We went through that town probably a dozen times a year, seems like that car sat there forever before it disappeared.

I recall a story that the required 500 cars to be available to the public in 1969 where short a hundred or so at count time. Perhaps NASCAR officials look the other way as some of the cars went around the building to be counted a second time!

That was the 1969 Charger 500 model not the Daytona. I think it was something like 392 built instead of 500.

I have a memory from very early childhood watching a white winged car (not sure if it was a Dodge or Plymouth) cross through the intersection at the bottom of my neighborhood - it took my breath away. I was told the doctor who lived up on the top of the hill owned it but I never saw or heard of it again.

Ride along with owner in his then "Pre-Joe Dirt" yellow w blk gut '69 Daytona 440 4-spd up and down Houston TX Westheimer on a cruise night back around 1984.

It was set up drag race style w aluminum slots w 50 series tires, rear spring shackle kits w air shocks to allow tires to clear wheel openings, "Grump Lump" hood-scoop, headers and LOUD exhaust. An excellent survivor w mods that could have been easily corrected. It was a great classic that the then new "IROC Z" crowd turned up their noses at...I was the only person to take notice, strike up conversation and seemingly appreciate the car for what it was.

Way back in the mid-late 80's I was in middle school and just starting to get into muscle cars. Some lucky kid would get dropped off at school every day in a chalky orange Superbird that looked like it had been through the mill. I didn't know exactly what it was but I knew it was special. Hope his family held on to it.
