Default 7th Gen Chrysler Turbine Engine For Sale

Yeah I know... it's not a Ppontiac engine but it's still cool.

It's for sale on eBay. So far, as of now, bidding is up to $25,000.

Images if it and the K car it was to be mated to.

And Jay Leno with a 1963 Chrysler Turbine.

Looks like it's missing a bunch of parts like the exciter box and most of the fuel control components.

Most of the turboprop/turboshaft engines I've worked on (PT6A,RR250-C20&C28, TPE-331) have between 1,500 and 2,500 ft/lbs of torque. I know the Granatellis installed PT6A( ST6N-74 variant) into a few Corvettes back in the late 70s, but these engines were torque limited to 1,000 ft/lbs so a highly modified TH400 could survive behind one.

The power section of a PT6A operates @ 20,000+ rpm. The gear reduction section reduces this to 2,500 rpm max. It take a LOT of torque to spin a propeller fast enough to produce the thrust needed to get an aircraft off the ground and keep it aloft.

Cool

One of my Fave Chrysler Turbine Displays HERE

Quote:
Chrysler's Bronze Blowtorch - the Turbine

Imagine a Car that...
o Runs on almost any fuel including kerosene, heating oil, tequila, Chanel #5, and Peanut Oil.
o Has an engine that weighs about half as much as a conventional V-8, yet the 140 horsepower it delivers is equal in performance to a 200-hp piston engine.
o Is self-cooled by its own air so you never have to worry about filling the radiator (there isn't one).
o Has only one spark plug and only about 1/5 as many moving parts as conventional engines. Just think what that could mean in reduced maintenance, tune-up costs, and repair bills.
o Starts instantly, even in the coldest weather, and needs no warm up.

Now...who wouldn't want a Jet-Car!

One question I have. Are the emissions of these turbines less than the gas engines of yesteryear and today?

I always thought they'd be cool but never looked into them for practicality.

The PT6A-6 is the basic model in the PT6 Turbine engine Series. It is the most used and successful engine.

True. The dash 6 was the very first PT6A released for commercial use (1963 if I remember correctly). It was rated at 500 shaft HP. In totally, PT6A engines have logged over 28 million flight hours.

Yeah but it gets better around 40,000 feet. And no car will ever get that high on it's own. LOL
