I am trying to determine the VIN of an 83 Trans Am. Water leak completely corroded the number at the base of the windshield. A sticker on the door jamb is completely illegible. I had read that a possible location was on the bulkhead around the rear hatch latch, but I found nothing there.
Any suggestions?

The front body support rail, passenger side should have the VIN stamped in.
RPO tag too (glovebox) |

So, under the fender......part of the unibody support structure

Thanks for the reply, Bob. The “glovebox” is just a vinyl pouch attached to the face of the dash. Do you know if the fender has to be removed to see the part of the support structure with the number?

I would think loosened up, not removed.
You should have a RPO sticker, maybe in the back hatch area. Pretty sure you have a small opening for the spare tire. Also - underneath the center console lid, my '84 has it there. And - the RPO list might of not started until 1984. So '83's might not have it (RPO sticker) |

Thanks again. I also found out the data plate (cowl tag) is not on the cowl but on the radiator support. Car is at a friend’s house and I have to get with him to check it out.
