Good afternoon. Hope someone can help me out. If I am in the wrong section, I apologize.

I am from the C4 Corvette world but am trying to help out a lady in my building that has a 1980 pace car. It revs high upon startup and her mechanic says it is in the carb. She has the proper rebuild kit but I am told it needs additional gaskets, fittings etc. for the turbo. I have a parts diagram but no part numbers. I am unable to locate a source. I checked the Ames website but it seems there are no turbo parts. Any help tracking down the needed parts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Before going crazy, check the choke and verify the vacuum lines are intact/routed correctly. Pinch off the vacuum line to the brake booster to rule it out as a vacuum leak. I'd strongly suggest using a smoke tester to look for vacuum leaks on that one.

Thanks for the suggestion. As noted, these cars are unfamiliar territory to me and I am not the person working on it. I am only trying to source a place where parts could be found, trying to help out my neighbor.

If you are looking for carb parts or a rebuild kit, contact Cliff Ruggles. He is the Q-jet guru and sells quality parts for these carbs. This is not an electronic Q-jet yet in 1980. Fast idle is still controlled by the fast idle cam on the carb. A vacuum leak could cause it to idle high when the choke is on. Check the hoses, vacuum booster and EGR valve for leaks.

The fellow that runs TTA Performance may be able to help.
Do know the '80 factory service supplement does not have illustrations of where the vac harness run,
instead it a has a rudimentary schematic. Would agree identifying swollen rubber hoses & identifying vac & boost referenced vac hose
leaks is one of the biggest issues when beginning to diagnose poorly running '80 Turbo engines.
