NOS door locks - not model specific
I recently bought a pair of NOS door locks, and this has me scratching my head;
I just checked the items to be sure everything was in order (I have been burnt in the past); I am wondering if the final line on the box end is a date stamp for when the contents were packaged; One reads 0103l5 The other reads 0103C5 If I am correct in guessing the final digit is the calander year; And the second to last letter represents the month; That should mean these were packaged March and December 1975... or maybe 1975/1985 ?? The reason why I am asking this is one of the envelopes has an unassembled trap door shaped for the 'J' key and less springs, while the other has two assembled trap doors - one chrome, one black, with more springs. I bought and assembeled door locks for one of my Grand Am's ages ago, and it came with black and chrome trap doors - BUT it also came with black and chrome lock covers; I am wondering if someone maybe put a later "trap door envelope" in with the NOS lock to make it complete, or if this was the way they were packaged at some point. Thoughts? (now I have to dig up the more-than-a-decades-old Grand Am lock bits that I didn't use)

FWIW, in the 90's I ordered GM lock parts for an 84 Monte Carlo SS that we owned, and it came with black and stainless versions. I'm not aware of black covers being used prior to '83, but that's just my experience. I can't be of help on the package dating.
And I would be interested in buying any new stainless covers you may have for GM door locks. |

#3981843 is a door lock cylinder package for all 1970 Pontiac models, all 1970 Chevrolet cars except Camaro, all 1970 Oldsmobile models. & all 1970 Buick models except Riviera.
The cylinder would accept a "J" key. The package should include an uncoded cylinder, lock case, case cap, shutter assembly, clip, and 4 springs. The exposed parts would only be "chrome" for 1970. |

/\ /\ that reads to me as though the second "kit" must have been missing the envelope, and had a latter one added.
I found that I still had parts from 1971 door locks that I disassembled, so I have shutters with the notch in it for the second lock.
